LG V34 announced in Japan, essentially a smaller, water resistant LG V20

The LG V20 is one of the more highly anticipated devices we’re looking at this fall, and for good reason. The large, durable, and powered smartphone is very compelling, but there will be two things many will complain about ─ the size and lack of water resistance.

In Japan, LG seems to have taken care of those complaints with the LG V34 (via Mobilissimo). This new smartphone is basically a V20, but smaller and water resistant. It has the same design and same specifications ─ a Snapdragon 820, 4GB of RAM, a built-in Quad DAC,  and Android Nougat. Around back there’s also the same dual-camera setup. The second screen also makes an appearance on the V34.

Where the V34 differs the most is in the screen size. It chops off half an inch, measuring in with a 5.2-inch Quad HD IPS display. Another slight change is a smaller battery at 3,000 mAh.

The device is also water resistant, but it’s a bit unclear based on the rating. KDDI lists the device with a dust resistance rating of IP6X, but the water resistance is listed as both IPX5 and IPX7. The reason for two ratings is unclear, but perhaps it has something to do with a removable back?
