Update 1/18: With yesterday’s rumor that LG is manufacturing the upcoming Nexus-like Wear 2.0 devices, it’s more likely that ZNFW280 is in fact the Watch Sport.

Looking through further FCC filings, we have found an LTE-lacking ZNFW270 that is presumably the Watch Style, while there is also ZNFW281 with cellular capabilities. These filings include near identical screenshots confirming they run Wear 2.0


Two new flagship devices are expected to launch with Android Wear 2.0 this quarter to invigorate the form factor. Following Google alerting developers to an early February launch for the OS this week, an LG smartwatch running Wear 2.0 has just passed the FCC.

We know the “Portable Wrist Device” is running Wear 2.0 as evidence by screenshots from the device’s settings menu. Notably, it features round icons and a Customization option.

Documents containing actual images of the device are still confidential, but the ZNFW280 FCC ID is line with the LG Watch Urbane’s ZNFW150 and the Urbane 2nd Edition LTE’s ZNFW200V. According to a list of models tested, there are at least three distinct variants: LG-W280, LG-W280A, LG-W280V.

Additionally, it’s likely that this device will have cellular capabilities, including multiple bands of LTE in addition to regular ones. The exact Bluetooth specification is not cited, but Wi-Fi is unfortunately only rated at 2.4GHz and not 5GHz.

Google confirmed that two devices are coming in Q1 of 2017, with rumors codenaming them Swordfish and Angelfish. The former device is smaller at 42mm with only a single hardware button and no flat-tire due to a small gap between the display and body.

The LG device that just passed the FCC is like Angelfish which was rumored to be more of a standalone device with LTE connectivity. The significantly thicker watch also features a heart rate sensor and three hardware buttons.

An announcement for these devices and updates for current watches is seeming ever more imminent following this week’s news.
