The Gemini app on Android can now set reminders via the Google Assistant integration and Google Tasks.
This was a big missing feature at launch that really highlighted how Gemini is not ready to be a phone assistant. The Gemini team said the lack of Assistant features was on the list of “things to fix ASAP” and they’ve now delivered.
Commands like “remind me to take out the trash tomorrow evening” on Android (using Gemini Advanced) no longer return an error or fake acknowledgment that a reminder has been set.
Gemini will call upon the Google Assistant to save the reminder in Google Tasks at the correct date and time. Like before, there’s an “Open Tasks” shortcut.
“Show me my reminders” also works as a command with an inline list.
We’re seeing Google Tasks reminders in the US with Gemini Advanced, but it might still be rolling out.
Gemini still can’t play music on your phone, and hopefully that’s next. In terms of Google Assistant functionality, this is the next big update to Gemini after auto-sending commands.
