Google Weather app redesign from Pixel is now available on more Android devices

Over the course of 2023, Google launched a new Weather app on Pixel phones with a nice new design and some additional features. After extending past Pixel in small tests last year, Google seems to now be making the redesigned Google Weather app widely available on Android.

The new Material You-full Google Weather app made its debut on the Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold in mid-2023. The new app saw a drastic redesign with more color, more data, and “NowCast.” That new forecast tool offers Dark Sky-like predictions for precipitation using machine learning. By October 2023, the app had extended back to older Pixel devices too.

However, the app was Pixel-only for quite some time.

In December 2023, we started to see the new Google Weather app showing up on additional Android devices, namely from Samsung. But it was a fairly limited rollout at the time. Now, it appears to be rolling out much more widely.

As of today, we’ve been able to access the new Google Weather app across Galaxy Z Fold 4, OnePlus Open, and Honor Magic 6 RSR, just in quick limited testing. Another user also spotted the new design on their Nokia 4.2, a device that’s stuck on Android 11. By all accounts, it appears the redesign is now just widely available on Android devices in general.

There’s still the odd case of “Pixel Weather” in recent Android beta updates, but it’s great to see this new design rolling out more widely.
