Oppo previews Find X8’s shutter button, works just like iPhone 16 Camera Control [Video]

Oppo is adding a new feature to its upcoming Find X8, with a shutter button that works exactly like Apple’s new “Camera Control” feature on iPhone 16.

In a post on Weibo, Oppo’s Zhou Yibao shared a video previewing a pressure-sensitive camera shutter button, as Android Authority first spotted. The feature allows users to double-tap to open the camera and then press the button again to take a photo. You can then also swipe on the button to zoom in or out.

Of course, it’s not actually a “button,” but rather a pressure-sensitive strip on the side of the device that just acts like a button.

If that all sounds familiar, it’s because it’s virtually identical to “Camera Control,” a feature Apple launched on the iPhone 16 series. There, users just press once to open the camera, but the swipes and ability to use the pressure-sensitive area as a shutter button work the same as Oppo’s implementation. While Oppo is coming to market after Apple, the company is not necessarily copying Camera Control because Apple released it, as the feature would have been in development for quite some time before Apple’s announcement.

Oppo also does highlight that this experience, swipes and all, works even if the phone is underwater, allowing the camera to be used if the touchscreen cannot.

The Oppo Find X8 series is likely to launch as soon as later this month and arrive globally sometime next year. It’ll also likely bring updated cameras and a new design compared to the Find X7 Ultra pictured above.
