Google updates ‘Device Connectivity Service’ for Pixel via Play Store

Pixel users today received an update to “Device Connectivity Service” via Google Play today.

This app/background service is already on your device, but this appears to be the first time it’s updated via the Play Store. There is no user-facing interface to open.

The Device Connectivity Service listing explains how it “Utilizes Pixel hardware to enable a suite of features that powers Pixel cross-device experiences.”

A screenshot shows the Clear Calling settings page, while the hardware in question is presumably referring to Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Ultra wideband (UWB).

It’s available on every Google device going back to at least the Pixel 6. The latest version rolling out via the Play Store today is 1.0.671214930_arm64-v8a_release_phone, while we’re seeing 1.0.617462596 on Android 14 and 1.0.648571639 on Android 15 QPR1 Beta 2.

Despite the description, this should be different from Cross-device services like Internet sharing and Call casting that rolled out last month. That’s powered by Google Play services and available to all Android devices, while that’s also different from the “Cross-Device Services” app that powers Chromebook streaming.
