Roku update turns your TV into a security monitor with camera feeds, notifications

A new Roku update is bringing additional smart home features that lets your TV act as a security monitor for cameras.

Rolling out in the coming months, Roku is adding three new features around its security cameras. Firstly, Roku TVs will be able to show more notifications from Roku cameras. You can get motion-triggered notifications from cameras as you pick, all right on your TV.

There’s also “Camera Carousel” on your Roku TV which will be able to display a rotating feed of your cameras based on motion detection, meant to display the camera where things are actively happening at any given time. Outside of a TV, you’ll also be able to access camera feeds through a new web view that works on computers and other devices.

All of these features will be rolling out in “Winter 2024.”

All of these features work with Roku’s cameras and video doorbells, which are effectively rebranded Wyze cameras (but with Roku’s software and added security measures, as Roku points out).

Roku has also previously rolled out support for controlling other smart home devices from your TV. Meanwhile, Google TV recently launched “Home Panel,” a feature that provides live views of Nest cameras, Doorbell notifications, as well as control over lighting and other smart home products from virtually any brand – Roku’s features are exclusive to Roku smart home devices.
