After a few months in beta, Samsung is finally ready to start rolling out Wear OS 5 to select Galaxy Watch models.
Way back in June, Samsung opened a beta program for One UI 6 Watch on its Galaxy Watch 6 series, later expanding that to older models. The update is based on Wear OS 5, and ships out of the box on the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra. However, as that update requires users to manually enroll, the vast majority of Galaxy Watch owners have yet to get Wear OS 5.
That’s now about to change.
Samsung has just rolled out the stable Wear OS 5 update to Galaxy Watch 6 owners who were enrolled in the One UI 6 Watch beta program. This marks the official end of the beta program, Samsung says, and usually leads to a stable rollout quickly afterward.
After updating to this latest version, Watch 6 owners who were enrolled in the beta program will automatically be back on the stable update track, as no more beta releases will be coming until next year’s update. As for the exact timeline, that remains unclear, but it’s likely going to be very soon.
Google, meanwhile, started rolling out Wear OS 5 to Pixel Watch and Watch 2 earlier this month, but ended up putting the update on pause due to various issues.
