The OnePlus Open was one of the best foldables of the past couple of years, delivering stellar hardware across the board. Its sequel hasn’t arrive just yet, but it’s shaping up to be even better, with leaked information hinting at a OnePlus Open 2 that brings wireless charging despite a much thinner design and a much bigger battery.
One of the few problems of the OnePlus Open was the foldable’s lack of wireless charging. For a device that had it all, it was a notable and glaring omission. That’s set to be resolved in the sequel, though.
Tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo says that the upcoming sequel to OnePlus Open (and Oppo Find N3) will be equipped with support for wireless charging. That’s despite “extreme slimness,” with the foldable rumored to beat the Pixel 9 Pro Fold in this regard, and perhaps even rival the impressively-thin Honor Magic V3. It’s a notable change, especially after OnePlus argued the merits of wireless charging when the Open was released.
That’s set to be paired with a way bigger battery too.
Where the OnePlus Open offered a combined battery capacity of 4,805 mAh, the sequel is said to hit a whopping 5,700 mAh. The existing device already outpaced competitors such as Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, but a 5,700 mAh battery easily beats out even many traditional smartphones. Notably, the OnePlus 13 is confirmed to have a 6,000 mAh battery.
It’s still almost unbelievable that the OnePlus Open 2 would have such a big battery, but a big part of the reason could be advancing battery tech. Honor, for example, uses silicon-carbon battery tech to squeeze a 5,150 mAh battery into the incredibly tiny 9.9mm Magic V3 foldable.
The same report also mentions that OnePlus Open 2 would be powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite, offer three 50MP cameras, and offer a “customized” USB-C port (though this one might come down to a messy translation).
Despite being well over a year old at this point, the OnePlus Open remains one of the best foldables on the market – especially when it’s on sale – but the sequel is shaping up nicely as a very impressive upgrade to get excited about.
