Google Voice simplifies number transfer to business Workspace accounts

Following call delegation, Google Voice is making it easier to transfer personal numbers to Google Workspace business accounts.

This update is aimed at Google Workspace customers that have the Google Voice Starter, Standard, or Premier add-on. It allows them to take a phone number that was created using a personal Google Account and “carry their number with them to a Workspace domain as their business grows.” For example: “a solopreneur with a Voice number might need to carry their number with them to a Workspace domain as their business grows.”

This “significantly improved experience for transferring a personal Google Voice number to a Google Workspace account” now just involves going to voice.google.com > Account Settings > “Transfer your number to another Voice account.”

You enter your personal Google Voice number and the Google Workspace email address that it should be associated with going forward.

The enterprise admin just has to accept the transfer request: Admin console > Apps > Google Workspace > Google Voice > Numbers.

  • “We know it’s important for our users to continue maintaining an established phone number and ensure that this number stays associated with them as they move to a Google Workspace business account.”
  • “Your number will be transferred as soon as the transfer is approved. Until then, you can continue to use the number with this account.”

This is rolling out starting today and will be available in the coming days.
