The US Postal Service (USPS) is testing out a new Android app that brings the carrier’s “Informed Delivery” service to your smartphone in what looks to be a well-designed app.
Informed Delivery is a USPS service that allows users to get an email each day that shows what is coming in the mail. That includes letters, but also packages. It’s a handy offering, but it can easily get lost in a busy inbox – especially as Gmail automatically filters it into the “Updates” tab.
The USPS is now preparing to launch a mobile app for Informed Delivery, with a beta program underway on Android as first highlighted by Droid-Life. You can use an existing account or create a new one, as well as scan tracking numbers and barcodes to track within the app. The app was first announced last year.

Im so glad I stumbled upon this article. I've been using the web version of Informed Delivery for about a year and a half to monitor my mail and packages. I just signed up for this beta program and downloaded it. It is actually much better than the website version. The photos load quicker, the navigating and deleting delivered packages is quicker. It's clean and simple. Haven't checked the notifications part out yet but it appears that it will notify you of updates of your packages. Hopefully they add the mail delivery notification. They recently added that to the normal informed delivery web version and it's really convenient and you don't have to guess whether they ran or not. That may also be on the app but again can't confirmed as my mail was already delivered today before stumbling across this article and app.

The Informed Delivery® Mobile application allows you to start your mornings with a preview of your day’s USPS mail and packages. This free app lets you see photos of your mail before it arrives and receive USPS tracking updates.
You can use the app to:
- Create your account or sign-in with an existing account.
- Get daily digest notifications to preview your mail and packages scheduled to arrive soon.
- See grayscale images of your mail before it arrives*. Images are of the exterior, address side only of letter sized mail.
- Interact with mailer-provided digital content associated with your mail (e.g. – special offers, related links).
- Scan eligible tracking numbers or label barcodes to track the status of your inbound or outbound USPS packages.
- Get delivery status updates directly to your smartphone.
To join right now, though, you’ll need to join a private Google Group for the app before you can access it via the Play Store.
Meanwhile, the same app is also being tested on iOS. iPhone users could sign up for access via Test Flight, but the beta program has since filled.
