Unlimited Google Photos storage was the biggest selling point of what quickly became the most popular photo storage service, but as it became hard to sustain with scale, Google pulled the plug. For a while, though, T-Mobile customers have had access to a special Google One subscription that included unlimited Google Photos storage, but it’s now dead.
In 2022, T-Mobile and Google introduced a special “2TB + Unlimited Google Photos” subscription. It was solely available to active T-Mobile subscribers and, as the name implies, added 2TB of Google One storage to your account, as well as making Google Photos backups not count towards your account storage. At just $15/month, it was a compelling offer.
But, now, it’s gone.
As of September 30, 2025, T-Mobile has shut down Google One enrollment and, in turn, cut off access to the only remaining way to get unlimited Google Photos storage.
Effective September 30, 2025, new Google ONE enrollment through T-Mobile will no longer be offered.
Customers have been able to confirm that existing subscribers of the unlimited Google Photos storage plans are still able to use them at this time, but new sign-ups are no longer available. That also means that customers are unable to move to one of Google’s AI-centric One plans and then move back. If the subscription changes or lapses, this Photos perk goes away.
Update 3/16/25: T-Mobile is notifying subscribers still on this plan that, as of April 1, it will no longer be operational. Any subscribers still on the plan will be moved to a Google One plan managed by Google which, in turn, will ditch the unlimited Google Photos perk.
A text from T-Mobile explains:
T-Mobile: Starting on 4/1/2026, Google will fully manage and bill Google One storage service for the line(s) ending in XXXX. To keep files backed up and avoid disruptions to Gmail, Google Photos, and Google Drive, update your billing information with Google before 4/1/2026.
T-Mobile’s support page has also been updated to note the 3/31/2026 end date, explicitly mentioning that the “Unlimited Photos & Videos” plans are no longer available after moving to Google’s plans.
Starting March 31, 2026, billing and support for Google One will move to Google. To continue accessing and backing up your content, customers must switch to Google billing by this date. After the transition, the 500GB and 2TB + Unlimited Photos & Videos plans will no longer be available. Customers can choose a standard Google One plan that best fits their needs.
The same page also explains how to transition your subscription over to being managed by Google directly.
- When you’re ready, visit the Google One website to start transferring your subscription.
- Review your current plan and storage usage shown on Google’s site to make sure the information is correct.
- Choose the plan Google recommends based on your storage needs, or explore other available Google One options before completing the transfer.
