Oppo is busy teasing its global launch of the Find X9 Ultra but, meanwhile, a new rumor suggests that OnePlus might be shutting down its global operations.
OnePlus founder and current CPO over Oppo, OnePlus, and other sub-brands Pete Lau took to Twitter/X today to further tease the global launch of the Find X9 Ultra. This was announced earlier this year, but it marks a major expansion for Oppo as the company’s “Ultra” series has never been available in markets such as Europe.
The Find X9 Ultra is “launching in April,” the teaser confirms.
Lau says:
The [OPPO Find X9 Ultra] is going global!
For the first time ever, global users can experience our Ultra flagship smartphone. Get ready for a new benchmark in mobile imaging!
Meanwhile, there’s talk of another major change to Oppo’s global effots, as its sub-brand OnePlus might be exiting global markets.
Leaker Yogesh Brar, who has a pretty solid track record, posted earlier today that OnePlus is “shutting down in select global markets.” This would include US, UK, and EU, the tweet goes on to imply. OnePlus would apparently continue operations in China while limiting itself to budget and mid-range devices in India.
The post was deleted around 5:30am PDT.
As recently as January, OnePlus said that a sensationalist (and AI-written) article claiming the shutdown of OnePlus was false, and that it “continues to operate.” But it increasingly sounds like something is going on. As we noted back in January, the writing has been on the wall for some time.
