Google TV is adding YouTube Shorts to the homescreen, new Photos screensaver, more

New Google TV updates are coming to bring additional AI features to the platform, as well a YouTube Shorts content front and center on the homescreen.

Starting “this Summer” in the US, Google TV will start adding YouTube Shorts to the “For You” row. This “personalized feed of snackable videos” will expand beyond Shorts eventually, Google says, but it’s starting there. Instagram is also on Google TV now, and Reels seem like an obvious candidate.

There are also more AI features in the works.

As announced earlier this year, Nano Banana image editing is coming to Google TV, as is Veo for creating new videos from your TV. These will both be available through the Gemini tab’s “Create” button. The rollout starts today with Gemini-enabled TCL TVs in the US and will expand to more devices later.

Google Photos is also getting a few boosts on Google TV. You can now better search for photos through Gemini on Google TV, and you can use Remix to make edits to photos from the big screen.

The biggest update here, though, is the arrival of Dynamic Slideshows for Google Photos on Google TV. This will include special frames and backdrops for your photos that gives the current setup a bit more life. This is rolling out first to Gemini-enabled devices in the US, but will roll out to Google TV device globally later on.

Google Photos search and Remix are rolling out first to Gemini-enabled devices in the U.S. Dynamic slideshows will be available on eligible Google TV devices globally.
