Google today announced a series of May / Spring 2026 updates for the Home app. Besides Nest Cam and automation improvements, the Gemini for Home voice assistant is getting an “intelligence upgrade” with Gemini 3.1.
Specifically, the model’s advanced reasoning allows Gemini for Home to “better interpret and execute complex, multi-step voice commands.” Gemini 3.1 today is available in the Gemini app as the “Pro” model and powers Gemini Live.
This lets users issue one command instead of needing to make multiple requests. For example, you can add “new items and [update] existing lists in one breath.”
Additionally, Gemini for Home “can now handle more complex requests at the outset.” This applies to controlling smart home devices, setting alarms, creating reminders, and managing calendars.
Gemini 3.1 is now fully rolled out to all early access users.
Meanwhile, Google previewed today that “Ask Home” is coming soon to home.google.com. The website will let you search camera history, check on devices, and create automations in a conversational manner. It joins existing functionality like viewing camera streams, turning on/off devices, and controlling automations.
