With the launch of Gemini 3 last November, Google introduced “Gemini Agent” as an “experimental feature that handles multi-step tasks.” It’s due for a big upgrade, according to a new report and strings this week.
About APK Insight: In this “APK Insight” post, we’ve decompiled the latest version of an application that Google uploaded to the Play Store. When we decompile these files (called APKs, in the case of Android apps), we’re able to see various lines of code within that hint at possible future features. Keep in mind that Google may or may not ever ship these features, and our interpretation of what they are may be imperfect. We’ll try to enable those that are closer to being finished, however, to show you how they’ll look in case that they do ship. With that in mind, read on.
Business Insider today reported on how Google employees are testing “Remy” as a “24/7 personal agent for work, school, and daily life, powered by Gemini.”
Other descriptions from internal documents include:
- “It elevates the Gemini app into a true assistant that can take actions on your behalf — not just answer questions or generate content.”
- “Deeply integrated across Google, Remy can monitor for things that matter to you, handle complex tasks proactively, and learn your preferences over time.”
On Monday, Google app 17.20 entered the beta channel with several new strings about “Gemini Agent.” While that’s the name of an existing feature available to Google AI Ultra subscribers, these strings seem to be referring to a big upgrade as discussed in the BI report.
Gemini Agent’s greeting is “What can I get done for you today?” Strings also describe this new Gemini Agent as “Your 24/7 digital partner.”
“It can take actions for you on the web and with your Connected Apps and skills, like communicating with others, sharing documents, and making purchases for you. To do this, it uses info like your chats, info from your Connected Apps, Personal context, Personal Intelligence, Agent files, and location.”
Like before, it still is an “experimental feature: It can make mistakes and expose data unintentionally. Be clear with your requests, and take care when asking it to do sensitive tasks. Supervise its tasks and actions in your dashboard. Gemini is not designed for tasks requiring professional knowledge, like for legal, medical, or financial actions.”
- Get personalized help: “Gemini Agent learns about you as you use it, including from your interactions and tasks with Gemini, your Personal context, and uploaded files. Manage and delete your activity in Gemini Apps Activity.”
- You’re in control: “Gemini saves your browser and cookie data, like your login credentials and browsing history. You can clear this data, turn off Personal Intelligence and Connected Apps, and manage your Personal context in Settings.”
In terms of the interface, you still interact with the Agent in conversations, with a dedicated section possibly appearing in the Gemini navigation drawer.
