Spotify is investigating why Google Cast, Chromecast devices won’t show in Connect

Some Spotify users have noticed that Google Cast (Chromecast) devices are not showing up in Connect when trying to start playback on a nearby speaker, and the issue is under investigation.

On a forum post, Spotify has acknowledged some ongoing issues with Google Cast devices, such as those labeled as Chromecast compatible, not showing up in Spotify Connect. The problem seems to be happening across all Spotify apps, not just Android, and affecting many different device types including Nest speakers, Chromecast Audio, and more.

Spotify says that it is aware of the problem and that it “is being looked into,” but there’s no word on a specific fix.

The thread on which Spotify made this confirmation started in 2024, with users intermittently noticing the problem in the time since. But comments on that thread and other online forums, such as Reddit, have seen an uptick over the past couple of weeks.

The root cause is unclear, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for a fix from Spotify.
