The Google Home app has largely taken over for most Nest users, but if you still prefer to access older hardware via the Nest app, a widespread outage has broken functionality for many.
Over the past 5 years, the Google Home app has been moving into the place of the Nest app. At this point, the vast majority of Nest devices are supported in the main Google Home app. Late last year, Google Home introduced the ability to mass-import older Nest gear.
But, right now, anyone trying to access the legacy Nest app might be running into issues.
Nest users are reporting on Reddit threads and DownDetector that the Nest app is coming back with an error message reading: “There was a problem connecting to the Nest service. Try again in a few minutes.” The issue seems to be affecting both the iOS and Android apps, and it’s been going on for several hours now.
The Nest status dashboard is not reporting any issues.
Google hasn’t acknowledged the problem just yet, but we’ll update this article as more details become available.
