Google TV growth appears to be slowing down, with a new update on the number of active devices only growing by about 11% over the past year and a half.
Following the launch of Google TV, the growth of Android on TVs has been massive. In 2023, there were 150 million active devices and, around a year and a half later, that number jumped up to 270 million.
At Google I/O 2026, we’re getting our next update on that figure – 300 million active Google TV and Android TV devices globally.
It’s much slower growth of just over 11%, just 30 million added devices. But that’s not a massive surprise when you look at the bigger picture. Google TV hit the scene in a changing TV landscape, where smart TVs were exploding and many brands were dropping their in-house platforms for Google’s offering, namely Hisense and TCL, which are two of the biggest TV brands on the planet.
Recent reports have pinned Google TV as having stalled its growth. It’s a dominant force in some regions, such as Europe, but it’s largely agreed that while Google TV will remain a big player, its market share will likely shrink to a degree over the coming years.
At I/O, Google announced a new focus on bringing better support for pointer remotes to Google TV, but there haven’t been any major reveals in terms of new features or changes coming to the platform.
