Yet another Google Home update is now rolling out, bringing a Gemini-powered “Pet Memory” to Nest Cam owners, while also expanding on “Ask Home.”
For early access users, Google Home is now rolling out two main changes.
“Ask Home” via voice (including smart speakers) is now available in “all” markets where Gemini for Home is supported, which includes Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Several of these regions already had support, but now all Gemini for Home users can ask their voice assistant questions that Gemini answer using real-time information from smart home devices and Nest Cam.
Also newly added to that list is Germany, which as of today has early access support for the Gemini for Home voice assistant. This also includes German language support in Austria, Switzerland, and, of course, Germany.
The biggest addition here, though, is “Pet Memory” for Nest Cam.
Through “Ask Home,” you can now tell Gemini your pet’s name and description, and Gemini will leverage that in future notifications and in response to your questions. So “a dog is walking in your kitchen” becomes “Fido is walking in the kitchen.” Google says this requires the Google Home Premium Advanced plan:
Pet Memory: We know your pets are an important part of your home, so now, your camera can tell you that “Fido is walking in the kitchen” instead of just “A dog is walking in the kitchen”. Your indoor Nest cameras (and select Gemini built-in cameras) are now more personal with the ability to remember key details about your pets. Simply go to Ask Home in the Home app and share your pet’s name and type. By remembering these details, we reduce misidentifications and can give you important, personalized updates – like letting you know when Fido is playing in the living room! Requires the Advanced plan of Google Home Premium.
All of these updates are rolling out now for early access users.
