Ahead of the summer travel season, Google Fi Wireless is boosting its international capabilities across five areas.
Google’s MVNO now offers “upgraded” dual cellular switching technology that means Pixel phones will find and connect to a “stronger available signal faster than ever before.”
International 5G service is now available in 22 new locations, including Morocco and Colombia, bringing the total to over 110 countries.
Google is bringing Wi-Fi Auto Connect+ across Europe and Asia in select locations, like London Heathrow Airport and other “popular hubs.” This premium Wi-Fi is “twice as reliable as our cellular network alone in indoor crowds.”
Similarly, VPN by Google now works in more locations, like Japan and South Korea.
The final upgrade is a better initial setup experience with the Google Fi app verifying that you’ll have international service. If you lose network connection while abroad, the companion application will automatically detect and fix technical issues. This process includes “guided next steps if a manual adjustment is needed.”
Google Fi is running a promotion — available until June 30 — where new subscribers can get 50% off an Unlimited Premium plan for 12 months.
