Smart lighting
LIFX Smart Color Smart bulbs

I need to preface that I have been using LIFX bulbs for a while, when high-quality smart lighting wasn’t as easy to get, and there’s a reason I haven’t switched away from the company. The quality shines (pun 100% intended), which I think is super important for bulbs and the like.
A two-pack of Matter-compatible full RGB LIFX bulbs is on sale now for $22. I have been using these when they were called the “Mini Smart Bulb,” which I think has been ditched as a name, so I’ve been using these for coming up to 8 years without a hitch – one bulb is on in my office as I type this, so I can attest to the longevity. I don’t think I’ve had a bulb last that long, probably ever, least not one that I use every single day in an office studio setup.
Linkind Matter Smart Light bulbs
If that’s a little rich for your blood, a friend told me that the Linkind Matter smart bulbs are solid for the price. You can get a 6-pack for just $28, and the bulbs are Wi-Fi 6-compatible, have full RGB color-changing capability, and support almost every protocol.
Smart plugs
TP-Link Tapo smart plugs

I recently picked up the TP-Link Tapo P115 smart plug to control a non-smart lamp on my bedside cabinet. I cannot believe I didn’t do this earlier. The setup process was a piece of cake. The fact that you can track power usage from the outlet and the cost of use is probably going to be a game-changer if you put this smart home plug in the right place.
They are only 2.4Ghz compatible and don’t support Matter connectivity, but that isn’t out of the ordinary. My plug is a UK plug, so it’s way bigger than the compact US-style plug. That’s the only grievance I have, our outlets, as robust as they are, do look huge and bulky. Anyway, I digress, I 100% thinking of switching out my old, even more bulky TP-Link Kasa smart plugs in favor of these smaller, more power-efficient options.
At $15.99 for a 2-pack or $24 for a 4-pack, with a solid app and TP-Link build quality, you’re getting a decent package. I’ll be picking up some more as this is a steal for reliable smart plugs. If you want Matter-compatible Tapo plugs, there’s a 3-pack for $19.99, which is a $5 discount.
Smart locks

Sadly, I’m not able to give too much advice on the best smart lock for your Google Home setup, as I’m not convinced it’ll go down well with my partner. However, I have it on great authority from my colleague Bradley over at 9to5Mac that the Level Lock Pro is the best smart lock for any home automation system. Despite being an Apple guy, he’s a big advocate for various Google Home systems, so I trust his judgement 100%.
What’s more, there’s a bona fide deal on locks over on Amazon right now that includes a full Matter-compatible home smart locking system for $295, down from the original $349 retail price. You can pick it up in matte black and “Satin Nickel,” which probably means you’re catered for various home decor situations.
One of the major reasons this could be a really valuable addition to your smart home is that it’s completely inconspicuous. It looks like a regular door locking system, which is around 60% smaller than competitor setups, so it’s not going to look overly techy and attract attention.
Smart blinds
SwitchBot Curtain 3

I have to admit, I’m a bit of a stickler for getting the lighting in my living room just right, but I rarely remember to close the drapes until the glare on the TV is already unbearable. Thankfully, our own Andrew Romero test drove the SwitchBot Curtain 3 and found it to be one of the absolute best ways to effortlessly upgrade your home automation.
This version packs a significantly beefier motor capable of pulling up to 36 pounds of heavy fabric, yet it manages to run almost entirely silently. If you schedule it to open in the morning using the “QuietDrift” mode, it operates at a virtually imperceptible 25 decibels. That means you can wake up to a natural sunrise instead of a loud, whirring motor, or you’re not disrupted when getting into “movie mode”.
Just clip right onto your existing curtain rods without requiring any complex tools.
Right now, Amazon has a fantastic Prime Day Deal on this smart home essential, slicing 30% off the price, bringing the setup down to $69.99 from its usual $99.99 retail price. It’s a great way to add an entirely self-sufficient layer of luxury to your smart home setup without breaking the bank.
Smart cameras
Google Nest Cam Indoor (Wired, 3rd Gen)

I have to admit that I do not have the 3rd Gen Nest Cam, instead I have the 2nd Gen, but it’s one of the most important cameras in my home. It overlooks and oversees the dog treat cupboard in my kitchen! Yes, that’s 100% overkill, but if my pup wants a snack, I need to know stat!
Amazon has a deal on the smart cameras for a solid $69.99, which is $30 off the MSRP. In my experience, the image is crisp and clear, the new versions support 2K images, which is a big jump up from 1080p on my model. You can pick it up in all three colors: Snow, Hazel, or the garish Berry
Google Nest Cam with Floodlight

The main reason I picked up two Nest Cam with Floodlights for my house was actually the light itself. I find the camera quality to be solid, but the quality of the floodlights are why I love them so much. The lights get super bright but it’s not dazzling white, it’s diffused and late into summer evenings or even in dark winter nights, it’s better than any other motion-based smart lighting I’ve tried.
A coupon knocks the updated $179.99 price down to $159.99. I think that’s good value for money. Seamless connection with your Google Home setup is just the icing on the cake here. I paid £279 here in the UK with fitting on top, so this is an absolute steal in my mind.
Smart Vaccums
Narwhal Flow 2

Our own Ben Schoon rates the Narwhal Flow 2 as one of the best smart vacuums on the market right now, and it’s hard to disagree. With a whopping $550 discount, putting this premium home cleaning experience down to $949, you’re getting a premium cleaning option.
It has an insane 31,000 Pa of suction, which is almost double what most competitors can offer. If there are crumbs and debris on your floor, expect this powerful beast to get it. This is a Rolls-Royce of a robot vacuum, and so it has every mod con.
Yeedi smart vacuums

I still use the Yeedi Vac 2 Pro from like 4 years ago, it’s the best robot vacuum I’ve ever owned, and it still cleans up nicely day-to-day. Sadly, it has been discontinued, but the experience has been so solid for me that I would highly recommend Yeedi for your smart home cleaning needs – it has left that much of an impression.
The best smart home deal right now on a full cleaning system, including a self-emptying tray, is the Yeedi S14 Plus. It’s down to just $399 from $1,199, with 18,000Pa suction, a mopping system, plus a sleek docking/cleaning station with hot water washing and way more tucked inside.
