Google has stopped selling the Nest x Yale Lock as it goes all-in on its replacement

It’s the end of an era, as the Nest x Yale Lock has been fully removed from the Google Store in favor of its replacement, despite Google not directly selling that alternative.

The Nest x Yale Lock is a pretty iconic release, perhaps being one of the most well-known smart locks of all time. The lock was announced over a decade ago and was officially discontinued in early 2025. Yet, it continues to get support. The Google Home app added full Nest x Yale Lock support earlier this year, for example.

But the book is more or less closed on the device at this point. A replacement was announced in 2025 in the Yale Matter Smart Lock, which is designed to match Google’s Nest Doorbell style and serve the same purpose as the Nest x Yale Lock.

The Google Store has, this week, listed the Yale Matter Smart Lock. It sits in the “Smart Home” category of the top banner, and the old URL for the Nest x Yale Lock now redirects to that listing. Google said that it would continue to sell the 2015 release while supplies lasted, but it seems that well has finally run dry.

But, interestingly, Google isn’t directly selling the replacement device. Instead, the Google Store’s listing just pushes potential buyers over to Yale’s website to make the purchase. It marks the first time the Google Store has not sold a smart lock directly.

The Yale Matter Smart Lock is available more broadly than just Yale’s website. You can often get it for less at Amazon, for example, where all three models are under $150 – just $120 for the black model – $39 or more off of Yale’s pricing.

RIP Nest x Yale Lock.
