Motorola’s wide Razr Fold wants to have ‘3D glass’ and a creaseless display

The puzzle pieces for the Motorola wide Razr Fold are slowly coming together. A recent World Power Consortium listing for the device, along with leaked internal mockups from Motorola’s design team, more or less cements a Wide Razr Fold in the works to take on the Galaxy Fold 8 and iPhone Duo.

Earlier this month, we obtained internal concept images of what’s very likely the Motorola Razr Fold Wide, though it probably won’t go by that name. They were never published because we didn’t feel there was sufficient supporting evidence at the time. There was no teaser from Motorola at the time, though the images we obtained contained watermarks from Lenovo/Motorola. Those are key to why we’re now posting these.

Motorola’s concept sketches show off a surprising amount of detail. For instance, portions of the mockup are backed by descriptions like “bezel-less” and “3D glass,” referring to the cover display. The latter descriptor sits next to a drawing of a Razr, not the Fold. It still may refer to a new push for a different cover display panel. It’s possible “3D glass” refers to curved screen edges similar to what we often see on the Motorola Edge series.

It also looks like Motorola wants to get closer to Apple’s design philosophy with a bezel-less front display, even with sharp left corners and rounded right edges. Without a bezel, the cover display would have to have the same look as the iPhone Duo. The other option is something like the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, which uses bezels to soften the harsh corners on the left of the screen.

Another page in the document suggests Motorola wants to get as close as possible to a creaseless display with the wide Razr Fold, as seen plainly written across one of the images. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and iPhone Duo get extremely close to this, but not quite. Maybe Motorola has the ability to reduce the inner display’s crease to nothing, maybe it’s just marketing talk. Either way, the existing Razr Fold has a more noticeable crease than most, so there’s plenty of room for improvement.

What makes these leaked images worth noting is that the same watermark is used in WPC listings for Motorola Razr devices. It showed up on the existing Razr Fold’s listing back in April, and what brought this to our attention was a new listing posted this week that’s also for the existing Razr Fold, but a Verizon variant of the device. As of now, that doesn’t exist, but the model number is identical outside of a “V” designation that points to a Verizon variant. This updated model also jumps up to the Qi 2.2.1 standard version, though still without magnets inside.

It’s hard to make any definite assessments around the Razr Fold on Verizon based on this listing alone, but the watermark tells us that the leaked materials are almost certainly a real indicator of what Motorola wants to deliver on its wider Razr Fold release.
