An influx of reports suggests that Google Classroom is suddenly out, while other Workspace apps seem unaffected.
Google Classroom appears to be out, according to a sudden outage spike on Downdetector starting at 12:33 PM ET. In a little under an hour, reports jumped from a clean zero to over 500, indicating the issue is widespread, more than localized to a few disconnections.
The Google Classroom program is still being utilized and improved on, even after the COVID-19 crisis forced students to learn from their own homes. Google has recently begun integrating third-party add-ons to make the web app more useful for those who still make use of the digital learning aid.
It doesn’t appear that any other Google Workspace apps are affected by the outage, other than Classroom. It isn’t uncommon for multiple Google Workspace apps to experience an outage at the same time. Google Drive looks to be intact, with just a minor blip yesterday. The schooling tool, however, shows a massive spike.
Google has yet to comment on the outage, as it’s only just happened. Unless there is a much broader issue, Classroom will likely be restored soon.
