Microsoft is rolling out refreshes to its smaller Surface Laptop and Surface Pro machines powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Plus starting at a price of $1,149.
The Surface Laptop and Surface Pro both picked up their Snapdragon X2 upgrades back in June, but that left the smaller models waiting on refreshes. As a part of Snapdragon Summit, Microsoft is confirming that those will arrive on October 13.
Surface Pro 12-inch is getting a Snapdragon X2 Plus chip, a 25% brighter display, and a battery that’s “30% more efficient.” There’s an optional 5G model coming too, which Microsoft says was “one of the most requested additions.” All models now include either 16GB or 24GB of RAM, removing the 8GB option on last year’s model, with either 256GB or 512GB of storage.
It’s mostly the same tablet otherwise, just now with a starting price of $1,149. That’s $300 more than the base model sold for, and that’s after a major price hike across the whole lineup back in April. Even directly comparing the 16/256GB model, it’s still a $100 price hike.
The formula is similar on Surface Laptop 13-inch, with this latest generation getting Snapdragon X2 Plus, ditching its 8GB model, and starting at $1,199 – $50 up from the last generation. Again, there are upgrades including a brigher display, but it’s nearly identical to last year’s model outside of the chipset bump.
Microsoft is also launching a new Surface Mouse which has haptic feedback and a customizable Copilot button. It costs $79.99 and will also be available on October 13. Both come with a new “Microsoft Ink Canvas” app.
