Qualcomm says rumors about Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 overheating are ‘inaccurate’

Following a report that Samsung might skip the latest Snapdragon flagship, Qualcomm says that rumors about the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 running into overheating issues are “inaccurate.”

For context: Reports out of Korea suggest that Samsung is in talks with Qualcomm to address overheating issues with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, with Samsung weighing its options and considering skipping the chip for its own Exynos 2700.

It’s a big claim, and one that Qualcomm says is “inaccurate.”

Responding to the story, Qualcomm tells 9to5Google that it is “proud of the innovation and strong momentum behind our next-generation flagship platform” and that reports of “thermal issues” are “inaccurate.”

A spokesperson says:

Recent reporting about thermal issues related to Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is inaccurate. We are proud of the innovation and strong momentum behind our next-generation flagship platform and continue to work closely with global OEMs to deliver premium user experiences.

In a reply on Twitter/X, Qualcomm CMO Don McGuire reiterates that there are “no systemic thermal issues.”

Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 packs two 5GHz cores and some massive CPU and GPU performance improvements over the already-powerful Gen 5 flagship.

Devices already confirmed to use the new top-tier chip include Motorola Signature 27, Xiaomi 18, Redmagic 12 Pro Plus, Honor Magic 9 Pro Max, OnePlus 16, and more.
