Google Health 5.11 rolling out expanded 100+ activity detection to Fitbit Air, Pixel Watch

With the Fitbit Edge announcement, Google Health previewed improved automatic activity tracking, and it’s now beginning to roll out with version 5.11 of the app.

This expanded activity tracking means the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 3, 4, and 5 go from detecting 10 activities to more than 100, including:

  • Cardio machines
  • Golf
  • High-intensity workouts
  • Racket sports
  • Strength training
  • Swimming
  • Team sports

The Fitbit Edge will also benefit from this upgrade. Google Health pairs your workout routines, historical data, manual edits, and location (permission required) with contextual reasoning.

Workouts that result in a sustained elevated heart rate and meet the minimum duration threshold are automatically logged, with a summary notification sent to the app “typically within 30 minutes.” When you “confirm or edit an activity” and log missing ones, Google will learn your patterns to tune future predictions.

Google says the end result is “nearly 2x more accurate detections,” while reducing “missed workouts by more than half.”

Expanded activity detection is appearing with Google Health 5.11, which is widely available on iOS and still rolling out on Android. After updating, users are seeing an “Expanded activity detection, built to learn” screen.
