Report: Samsung Galaxy Note 5 to get August 13 unveiling in New York City

For some time now it’s been predicted that Samsung will skip the noise of IFA in September and choose to launch the Galaxy Note 5 in August. We had heard previously that Sammy was planning an event for its flagship phablet on August 12th. Business Korea, however, stepped in this morning with its own information claiming the Note 5 is being launched just a little later than that.

According to the publication’s sources, Samsung will host an unveiling event in New York City on August 13, during which it will announce both the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.

Part of its reasoning to release the phone earlier than expected is to avoid clashing with Apple’s own iPhone launch. It’s expected that the Korean tech giant’s biggest competitor will unveil the next generation iPhones in September/October as normal. By the time Apple is gearing up to announce its iPhone, the Galaxy Note 5 and its sibling could already be on store shelves in multiple countries across the globe. This would undoubtedly give Samsung a head-start as it attempts to gain back some market share lost after the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were released.

It will also avoid all the announcements expected at this year’s IFA conference in Berlin where multiple Android OEMs will more than likely release new versions of their devices too. In the past, Samsung has been part of that event. This year, it allegedly has other plans.

Whether or not these plans are set in concrete is yet to be seen. It’s widely expected that both the Note 5 and S6 Edge Plus will look largely similar to the S6 and regular S6 Edge, respectively. They could also feature Exynos 7422/7420 processors, 4GB RAM and 5.5/5.7-inch screens and 16MP cameras.

We’ll keep you updated on all the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 developments as we hear them. Until Samsung has sent out official media invites, anything we read or hear is just a rumor.
