Unknown LG ‘V’ handset leaked, sports an unusual front camera

Another day, another Android smartphone leak. Today, we’re getting a look at an unknown LG handset sporting “V” branding on the back. Noticed first by notorious leakster Steve Hemmerstoffer whilst going through Chinese regulator TENAA, the phone also seems to have an odd front-facing camera that’s embedded in the screen…

There isn’t a line of LG phones — at least not in the last several years —  that sports the “V” moniker, but there’s no reason that can’t change. It’s also possible that LG could be using a misleading render of the phone, but imagery that passes through TENAA tends to be very close to reality. And sometimes, it’s closer to reality than press renders.

According to a report in the Korean Herald earlier this year, LG is planning a device that “stands above” the G series, as the Korean company aims to “close gaps” with Apple and Samsung. The new series would likely go beyond 1,000,000 won (908 US dollars). The phone is expected to have higher specs and ship at some point in the second half of 2015.

As we’ve told you at least a couple of times, LG is likely to be working on an LG G4 “Note” variant of the G4 with a larger screen and beefed up specifications. A report from March claimed that the high-end smartphone was in the works, and leaked images from later that month purported to show the G4 Note. Everything is still a mystery at this point.

This phone, which seems to have a removable back cover, a textured back, dual-tone flash, and possibly a laser autofocus module, could be just about anything at this point. It could be the handset that “stands above” the G series, it could be some variant of the G series like a G “Note” or “Pro”, or it could be something else altogether. We’ll see.
