Back in March, Chromecast was renamed to Google Cast and Vizio announced the first Cast-enabled televisions. Philips just announced four new sets as part of the 6000 series Google Cast Ultra HDTV. Like recent affordable Android TV showings from RCA, these models start at $649.
The 6000 series TVs are available in four sizes: 43 inches, 49 inches, 55 inches, and 65 inches. They share the same design with thin bezels and metal legs. All have 4K resolutions, but the 43-inch and 65-inch uses a Macro Dimming LED backlight with a VA LCD panel that supports HDR. The mid-sized sets have an IPS LCD panel with a BrightPro LED backlighting system as well as Micro Dimming backlight.
All feature a 3D sound experience, are compatible with HDMI 2.0a with HDCP2.2, and have built-in HEVC and VP9 decoders. Connectivity includes 802.11ac Wi-Fi with MIMO antennas.
Google Cast allows users to stream movies, TV shows, and music to their televisions from Android, iOS, or Chrome. As a result, TV manufacturers do not have to design and maintain their own operating system or use something heavier like Android TV.
The 49-inch and 55-inch models will be available in June for $799 and $999, respectively. The 43-inch costs $649 and 65-inch comes in at $1499; both will be available in July.
