As first noticed by one user on Reddit, it seems that Google Maps has begun showing the current speed limit while using navigation. It’s something that has long been live in the Google-owned Waze navigation app, so it should be no surprise that it has made its way into Maps…
Based on the picture provided by the Reddit user currently seeing the speed limit feature, it would appear that the icon will be overlayed in the bottom left-hand corner of the map and displays what it believes to be the current speed limit. Based on the above screenshot, it seems to be a nice addition that doesn’t bring much clutter.
Another user also noticed that the speed limit feature is currently rolling out to Android Auto in-dash entertainment systems. On this version of Google Maps, though, the speed limit icon can be found in the lower right-hand side of the screen.
I am not seeing the speed limit feature on my devices, but rest assured it should start rolling out to a wider audience over the next couple of weeks. This should be a change that is activated server-side by Google so an app update should not be required.
