Just last week we told you that Android Pay became available in New Zealand, and now the service’s world tour continues. Today, the Mountain View company has announced (via its official blog) that the payments platform is now available in Ireland as well.
Whether you’re doing your daily shopping or heading for a night out, your Android phone is all you need as you walk out the door — thanks to Android Pay. Starting today, Android Pay is available in Ireland, helping you pay simply and securely with your Android phone.
Google says that you’ll be able to use Android Pay pretty much anywhere that lets you use contactless payments — which in this case includes “Eason, McDonald’s, Tesco, SPAR.” You can also check out the Ireland Android Pay website for more retailers that support Android Pay starting today.
As is the case in the United States, Google is also giving the Irish people the ability to check out using Android Pay in their favorite apps. These include Adverts.ie, Deliveroo, Dice, Uber, Hotel Tonight, and more.
While you can use Android Pay pretty much anywhere contactless payment terminals are found, as was the case in New Zealand, the number of banks that are supported in Ireland is going to be the real bottleneck. For now, only those with an eligible MasterCard or Visa card from AIB and KBC will be able to use the service.
You can download Android Pay for free on the Play Store.
