Thomson’s Streaming Box Plus 270 is the Walmart Onn Pro – but for Europe

It feels weird to say that Walmart has the best Google TV streaming box but here we are. While that’s great, for those of us in the rest of the world, the new Thomson Streaming Box Plus 270 looks like the rebranded Onn Pro we’ve been hoping for.

Now that the Chromecast is effectively dead and replaced by the Google TV Streamer, we’re not exactly awash with options for high-powered Android TV systems.

As spotted by the /r/Chromecast subreddit, the brand new – but terribly named – Thomson Streaming Box Plus 270 is effectively a rebranded or rebadged version of the Walmart Onn 4K Pro. While there are some minor cosmetic differences, for all intents and purposes this is the same Google TV streaming box that has been on shelves in the US for a little while now.

That means all of the same core specifications make the jump to the Thomson Streaming Box Plus 270, including an Amlogic S905X4-B processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB onboard storage, Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, USB 3.0, a dedicated Ethernet port, and a remote with more buttons than you probably need. These include dedicated buttons for Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, and Amazon Prime Video. It also gets the customizable “Star” button.

At least on paper, this hardware based on the Google G10 reference design will outperform the newly released Google TV Streamer.

Visually, it looks a little bit sleeker with sharper edges but it retains the fabric top section. It also includes the Find My Remote button, and the port selection is placed identically on the Thomson Streaming Box Plus 270 to the Walmart Onn 4K Pro.

One of the only downsides is that no pricing has been confirmed for the Thomson Streaming Box Plus 270. The official site also does not confirm where it can be ordered at this stage. Simply stating “available at selected retailers.” Thomson offers streaming solutions in Germany, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Turkey, Ukraine, and the UK officially, but it’s not clear where will get this device first.
