YouTube just started a new round of ad blocker bans, and people keep complaining about it

YouTube is in a war against ad blockers, with its latest move seemingly closing a loophole in Firefox, and people just keep complaining about it.

Last year, YouTube made its stance clear. If you want to watch videos with YouTube you’ll either need to watch ads or pay for Premium. Ad blockers were no longer going to be allowed. For viewers with an ad blocker installed, YouTube would prevent playback until it was turned off, and it was pretty effective at stopping many popular blockers.

That hasn’t stopped many from trying to get around the restrictions.

For a while, many have been using various loopholes to continue to block ads on YouTube. Over the past 24 hours, YouTube appears to have strengthened its protection against this means of access, with viewers now seeing “Ad blockers are not allowed on YouTube” and “Ad blockers violate YouTube’s terms of service” widely yet again.

Again, YouTube has made its stance clear, but that hasn’t stopped pushback from users.

Various Reddit threads regarding this latest round of ad blocker blocking question what changed, and tell YouTube to “just give up” as well as simply bashing Google for enforcing the ban, a ban which provides revenue directly to those creating these videos in the first place.

Blocking ad blockers will continue to be an endless cat-and-mouse game. However, it’s one that YouTube is clearly in for the long haul.
