Galaxy S26 series gets faster wired and wireless charging, but you’ll need your own Qi2 magnets

Samsung has confirmed that, yes, the Galaxy S26 series is getting faster charging rates both wired and wireless, but skipping out on Qi2 magnets yet again.

Charging speeds on Samsung Galaxy devices have never been on the bleeding edge, but they’ve certainly gotten quite a bit faster in the past few years. With the Galaxy S26 series, there are a few upgrades in store.

On the wired side of things, the upgrade is found on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which jumps up to 60W from its previous 45W speeds. This also comes with an upgrade to the in-box cable. While there’s still no charger in the box, the cable Samsung ships with the phone will be capable of delivering faster speeds. The Galaxy S26+ has 45W charging and the base Galaxy S26 is 25W, both unchanged from the Galaxy S25 series.

Meanwhile, on the wireless side, Samsung is skipping Qi2 magnets again, but is upgrading speeds. The base Galaxy S26 is still locked at 15W, but the Galaxy S26+ jumps up to 20W, and the Galaxy S26 Ultra picks up Qi2 25W charging speeds – again, with no magnets built in.

The lack of magnets actually begs a question.

Based on what we’ve been able to dig up, the Qi specification’s EPP (Extended Power Profile) is restricted to 15W speeds, with 25W reserved for the MPP (Magnetic Power Profile) and active alignment devices. So, with that in mind, does the Galaxy S26 Ultra require a magnetic case to achieve proper 25W speeds? As far as we can tell… yes, both by the terms of the Qi spec as well as the simple fact that there are no 25W wireless chargers without magnetic alignment. Even Samsung’s first-party 25W wireless charger (pictured below) is a magnetic puck that is, at bare minimum, frustrating to use without a magnetic case.

We’ve reached out to Samsung for comment regarding why the Galaxy S26 series still lacks magnets – thickness concerns were mentioned in another briefing – as well as if a magnetic case is required for full charging speeds on the Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra. We’ll update our coverage when more information becomes available.

The Galaxy S26 series is available for pre-order now, with Samsung’s usual pre-order perks in full swing. You’ll find boosted trade-in values and more available now through March 11, when these phones are available on store shelves.
