Google Maps EV trip planning, which predicts battery usage and recommends charging stops, is getting an Android Auto expansion today.
It works by adding your electric vehicle’s make, model, year, and trim in the Google Maps app. On Android, go to Settings > Your vehicles > Electric to enter.
Going forward, adding a destination in your car will show the trip’s expected battery usage. You can also add your current charge level to see recommended charging stops, estimated arrival battery level, and an updated ETA that takes into account charging time.

Other preferences let you state your desired battery level upon arrival to have Google Maps add more charging stops.
These battery predictions are powered by Google AI and “advanced energy models” that analyze vehicle weight and battery size. That’s combined with real-time Google Maps information about traffic conditions, road elevation, and weather.
Starting today, Google Maps and Android Auto are rolling out support for over 350 new car models in the US from the following brands:
- Audi
- BMW
- Chevrolet
- FIAT
- Genesis
- Hyundai
- Jaguar
- Kia
- Lexus
- Lucid
- Mercedes-Benz
- Nissan
- Porsche
- Subaru
- Toyota
- Volkswagen
