Samsung Galaxy Book 6 Edge with Snapdragon X2 Elite is $2,100, only 16GB of RAM

Samsung has just announced its first Galaxy Book laptop powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Elite and, while it looks great, it’s hard to annoy the sky-high price tag.

Galaxy Book 6 Edge is only Samsung’s second Snapdragon-powered Galaxy Book, with the previous Galaxy Book 4 Edge series consisting of two screen sizes an powered by Snapdragon X Elite.

With the new model, Samsung is upgrading to Snapdragon X2 Elite with a slimmer offering.

Galaxy Book 6 Edge comes solely in a 16-inch size in a “Gray Blue” color. There’s just one configuration as well – 1TB of storage and 16GB of RAM. Samsung’s announcement never mentions that latter spec, but does highlight the AI performance of the new Qualcomm chip, the anti-reflective AMOLED display, and 22 hours of battery life.

The Galaxy Book 6 Edge also packs two USB-C ports, a full-size HDMI port, a microSD card slot, a USB-A port, and a headphone jack.

As per usual with a Galaxy Book, there’s also a bunch of different integrations with Galaxy phones:

Storage Share enables direct access to photos and files across Galaxy devices, so you can view, edit, and transfer files across your Galaxy Book6 Edge, Galaxy mobile phone, and Galaxy Tab without cables or external drives. With Multi Control, you can copy, paste, and drag-and-drop between your Galaxy devices. Second Screen allows you to instantly create a portable workstation by extending your desktop to a Galaxy Tab. Nearby Devices helps you see and quickly connect to all your other Galaxy devices.

And it all costs… $2,099.99.

That’s a tough price point for a number of reasons. On the Windows side, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x has the same chipset, an AMOLED display (albeit at 14 inches), and 32GB of RAM for $1,899, and that’s when it’s not on sale. Over in Apple’s garden, a comparable MacBook Pro (16-inch) retails for $2,699, but with 24GB of RAM instead of 16GB. A MacBook Pro (14-inch) with the same storage and RAM runs $1,699.

It’s not hard to understand why we’re at this price tag, but it hurts. Especially recalling that the Galaxy Book 4 Edge started at just $1,349 barely two years ago.

Samsung is selling this laptop solely through its website, shipping immediately, with up to $390 back for trade-ins – that’s really only for Galaxy Book 5 laptops, though. Anything else is lucky to get anything over $25 in credit.
