Laptops powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 chipsets are starting to hit the market, but Samsung’s Galaxy Book 6 Edge has just leaked with a major change – it’ll no longer be available in a smaller size.

According to new findings, Qualcomm is preparing its Snapdragon X Elite chips for future Android PCs.

Alongside the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 headed to your next Android phone, Qualcomm has also unveiled the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme and X2 Elite SoCs for Windows PCs, and it sounds like like the multi-year wait for second-gen products was well worth it.

Microsoft’s Surface lineup is getting a boost from its proprietary AI suite, along with some more affordable hardware. Surface PCs have long been good options for their size-to-power ratio, and a new set wants to take that a step further with NPUs built for more Copilot+ at a more reasonable price in the 2025 Microsoft Surface Laptop and Surface Pro.

The launch of the Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus last year brought a new importance to making Windows apps for Arm-powered PCs, and one notable omission was Google Drive. After launching in beta last year, the Google Drive app for Windows is now widely available for Snapdragon and Arm-powered machines.

Google has quietly launched its handy Quick Share app for Windows for ARM-powered devices such as Snapdragon X Elite laptops.

The second wave of Snapdragon-powered laptops is coming, and for a more affordable cost too. Lenovo has just launched its first IdeaPad laptop with Snapdragon X Plus at IFA this week, and for hundreds less than its previous Snapdragon model.

The Snapdragon X Elite has finally arrived and, with it, Windows laptops that might be able to stand up to the MacBook in areas they’ve fallen well behind in. After a day with Microsoft’s latest Surface Laptop, I’m excited for this new future.
