Google is beginning to roll out Personal Intelligence for Gemini on Android Auto and Android Automotive (cars with Google built-in).
Like in the Gemini app or AI Mode, Personal Intelligence taps into your Google Workspace (including Gmail and Calendar), Photos, Maps, Search, and YouTube to personalize responses. Your prompts and commands don’t have to include specifics as Personal Intelligence can pull those details from emails, photos, or a “place you saved in Google Maps.”
This allows for complex or natural queries, like “What’s my flight gate? And is my flight on time?” or “Take me to my doctor’s appointment.”
- “You don’t have to hunt for the confirmation email, then do a separate search for delays. Gemini gives you both answers in one go.”
- “You don’t have to remember the street address or look it up before you drive.”
Additionally, Gemini is aware of your preferences when you say: “Find me an indoor restaurant along my route that matches my usual vibe.” This saves you from having to specify you’re vegetarian with every command.
Other examples include:
- Retrieve details without pulling over: Trying to return to a place you saw earlier? Say, “Find the car wash from the photo I took last week and navigate there.” You don’t need to scroll through your camera roll or pull over to get the name and directions.
- Pick up where you left off: Heading out for the morning? Say, “Take me to the coffee shop we were talking about yesterday”. Gemini will handle the digging and send you on your way.
On the privacy front, Personal Intelligence is opt-in, though it will come to Android Auto automatically if you enabled it for the Gemini app on your phone.
If you don’t use Personal Intelligence, everything in the car still works: You can use navigation, listen to music, make calls, and ask questions, but the answers won’t be tailored to you.
Meanwhile, on Android Automotive, Personal Intelligence will only share personalized responses “when you’re in the car with your phone connected.”
Personal Intelligence is rolling out starting today to Android Auto, with Android Automotive availability in the coming months.
