Amazon is currently testing an all you can eat subscription-based ebook and audio book service called “Kindle Unlimited.” A product landing page spotted by GigaOM revealed that the unannounced service will provide customers with access to over 600,000 titles for $10 a month. While subscription-based e-book services for smartphones and tablets already exist, Amazon has a vast number of resources that could quickly make the company a force in this relatively untapped market.
Amazon currently pairs unlimited access to its on demand video streaming service with its Prime service for $99 a year, along with one free borrowed ebook per month from the Kindle Owners Lending Library. Toss in the company’s mobile devices like the Kindle Fire and Fire Phone and expanding its ebook business model seems to make sense.
If you’re not the bookworm type, you’d probably want to avoid this service, however if you consider yourself an avid reader, $10 a month is almost a no-brainer. We’ve reached out to Amazon for details about Kindle Unlimited and will update this news article of any new information becomes available.
