Google Maps for Android updated with sharable directions

After a relatively quiet Update Wednesday, Google this evening has picked things up by rolling out an update to Google Maps on Android, bumping the app to version 9.3. The update is not chock full of features, but there are certainly a few things avid users of the app will appreciate.

First off, version 9.3 of Google Maps introduces sharable directions. This means that once a user loads up directions to a location, they can share the directions to anyone else. The directions are shared as a list of instructions, with a link to view the best route in current traffic. For Glass users, the ability to share directions to Google Glass is also present in version 9.3.

Android Police points out a new set of strings within the APK that relates to location-specific notifications. For instance, these notifications would relate to nearby “transit stations, airports, restaurants, and stores.” Another set of strings noticed by Android Police relates to the ability to “check-in” to a location one the user has arrived. Both of these features could potentially roll-out to the app later on at some point.

The update is rolling out now via the Play Store.
