It feels like ages ago that Google acquired the Nik Collection of photo editing tools, and earlier this year the company announced that it would be ceasing development on the collection as a whole. Today, DxO has announced that it is acquiring the Collection from Google and bringing it back to life.
A lot of Google’s awesome software is free, and the company made a lot of photographers happy last year when it dropped the price tag on its $150 collection of photo editing tools, the Nik Collection. Today, however, Google has revealed that it will no longer be providing updates to that suite.
In 2012, Google purchased Nik Software and made their excellent mobile photo editor Snapseed free on Android and iOS. Since then, many of Snapseed’s features have been integrated into Google’s various photo products. Besides mobile, though, Nik also developed plugins for desktop photo editors — and starting today they are also free.
