Gmail 5.0 now available for download w/ Exchange support and Material Design

An update to Gmail for Android 5.0 Lollipop has been in the works for a long time, with the update promising to pack a plethora of new features and visual enhancements. This evening, after a long wait, the Gmail 5.0 app is now available to download with all the expected features in tow.

Obtained by Android Police, the update packs all of the features we have been expecting. The interface has been reimagined with Material Design in mind. It takes many design cues from Google’s new Inbox service, as well, which is great since Inbox is still in a very limited beta.

Aside from the design enhancements, Gmail 5.0 adds a handful of under the hood goodies, as well. Of course, arguably the biggest of which is the support for non-Gmail accounts, including Outlook and Yahoo. Another new feature allows for instant auto-updating of email threads. This means that when you’re reading a thread, instead of notification appearing to alert you of the reply, the reply itself simply appears.

The Gmail 5.0 APK is available to download from Android Police right now. It works on devices running Ice Creams Sandwich or later.
