Google made the cameras on both of its new Nexus devices this year a main selling point. Both the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X feature 12.3 megapixel sensors with dual LED flash and an f/2.0 lens. The front facing cameras are also both 8 megapixels with HDR+ support. To go along with today’s new hardware, Google has announced changes to its Camera app, as well.
Noted by Android Police, Google’s Camera app has added support for slow-motion video on both the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. The app can record 120fps video on the Nexus 5X and 240fps video on the Nexus 6P, with support for slowing down to 48fps. The new camera app also features support for a new HDR+ mode, a feature that automatically detects when the HDR capability should be turned on based on lighting conditions.
Smart Burst is also new to the Camera application, although it’s only supported on the Nexus 6P. This feature allows users to long press on the camera shutter button and take bursts of photos at 30fps. Finally, the app also features a redesigned interface that makes it easy to swipe between camera and video mode.
The Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are available on the Google Store now and shipping in 5-6 weeks.
