Recently I’ve found myself diving back into a lot of Google’s older devices, and that includes the Nexus 5, which had a brilliant red color option that, really, I want Google to bring back on a Pixel.
Expand Expanding CloseWhen Google began rolling out Android Nougat earlier this week — and began distributing factory images for the update just yesterday — one long-supported device was notably left out: the Nexus 5. Android developers across the web saw an opportunity with this omission, though, and have already begun distributing early builds of Android 7.0 Nougat for the LG-made device…

Update: According to the store’s forums, Woot has been shipping customers 16GB refurbished or ‘open box’ versions instead of the 32GB new version advertised in their original listing. If yours hasn’t shipped yet, be sure to check your device as soon as it comes to make sure you have been sent the storage capacity advertised. If you get the incorrect version, get in touch with Woot for a solution. They’re aware of the issue, a Woot staff member posted the following message:
Hey all. Good morning. I know you’re upset and we are as well. We are working hard to figure out what all happened with this.
As soon as we get it all sorted out, I’ll post here and you’ll get an email from CS as well.
I’m so sorry for this and please know that I’m working to keep on top of it.

Following the launch of the Type-C equipped Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and Pixel C devices, Google engineer Benson Leung set out to save us from all the dodgy non-compliant cables and adapters available on Amazon. Without the correct technical compliance, a Type-C adapter could charge a device too slowly, or at worst, ruin the product. Following Leung’s extensive testing, Amazon has now prohibited the sale of non-compliant accessories.

If you’re looking for a great value flagship smartphone, and have a particular taste for completely vanilla Android, you’re in luck. Both of the current Nexus phones, the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X have been discounted today…
In a surprise move, Google announced today (as we told you earlier this morning) that the Android N developer preview is available for download. The simplest route is through the yet-to-be launched Android Beta Program, but as usual Google has also posted the factory images.
Update: It looks like the update also has a new “Cool color temperature” toggle for using cooler display colors.
I wrote my thoughts on the Nexus 5X all the way back in November, and the gist of it was this: the Nexus 5X is great, but its performance just leaves a lot to be desired — especially for a phone with such better-than-average specs. People familiar with its development told me that there was a lot of internal strife regarding the Nexus 5X and its performance issues, but it seems that drama has finally resulted in some good. The March security update that was issued yesterday packs some extra goodies for Nexus 5X owners…

Two weeks ago, Google permanently lowered the price of the Nexus 5X by $30 to $349. Today, alongside a Valentines promotion, the smaller Nexus device is getting what appears to be another price drop, this time to $299. “Was starting at $349, now starting at $299,” the wording says on the Nexus 5X Google Store listing…
Continuing on the trend to reboot old media franchises, X-File is back on television after 14 years. The six part miniseries combines the modern topics of government surveillance and spying with the old alien searching sci-fi themes. While watching the first episode, we noticed that the titular characters of Mulder and Scully are using Google’s Nexus devices.

Amazon is also offering the 64GB model for $50 off at $499 shipped, and both models are also available at Best Buy for the same prices. Alternatively, Google is offering a $50 purchase credit toward a Huawei Watch when you buy any color Nexus 6P…

You may recall on Black Friday, the Nexus 5X got a rather generous $80 price cut, lowering the cheapest model to $299. Then up until Christmas, it was $50 off from numerous retailers. It now appears that the less powerful Nexus smartphone is getting a permanent much needed $30 discount from the Google Store.
