PSA: Registration for the Google I/O 2016 lottery is now open

Google said that registration for I/O 2016 would be opening on March 8th, and today is March 8th! You can now head over to the Google I/O website and register to attend the event. There’s no need to be in a hurry, though. Just like previous years, I/O 2016 attendance will be determined based on a lottery system. Register any time between now and March 10, 2016 at 5:00PM PST, and you’ll be on the list…

The order in which applications are received has no bearing on the outcome and remember, only one registration application per person is allowed.

Selected Applicants will be chosen at random and invited via email to complete registration for the event.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai shared earlier this year that Google I/O 2016 will happen between May 18-20th in Mountain View. Notably, the annual developer event is scheduled to take place in Mountain View this year at the Shoreline Amphitheater, versus the usual Moscone venue in San Francisco. The Shoreline Amphitheatre has a much larger capacity of 22,500 while the ballroom usually used for the main keynote at Moscone can only seat 6,075 people, so it’s possible that more attendees than usual will be given the opportunity to buy a ticket this year.

In addition to registration now being open, the I/O 2016 website also now lists hotel and transportation details. There are several hotels in the Mountain View area that will have official shuttles running to and from Shoreline, and Google also lists 3 airports that could serve as good destinations to fly into California (assuming you’re coming from out of state). Google has also today published more information about Google I/O 2016 extended events.
