These neat handmade decals add a ‘light bar’ to your Pixel XL (Update: 5-inch Pixel too)

Google’s Pixel products have always had an understated design, and the same goes for the new Pixel smartphones. However, the design of the Chromebook Pixel and Pixel C came with a very unique accent ─ the light bar. What if there was a way you could get the light bar back?

This LED bar served a function on those devices by showing remaining battery life upon a double-tap, and along with that they just looked cool. Before the Pixel and Pixel XL launched, my colleague Edoardo Maggio showed me a fan render of the device with a light bar, and we both geeked out, and for good reason ─ it looked awesome!

Unfortunately, Google didn’t adopt this feature on the final product. The designs look fine, but I really think they would have benefited from a little more flair.

Thankfully, Android enthusiast and Redditor Bill Stebbins has created a solution: a set of decals. These vinyl decals add a splash of color to the Pixel’s design, and they’re both easy to apply and inexpensive. For a few bucks, they’ll send you two sets for the Pixel XL (two light bars and two four-color “G” logos). Keep in mind that these aren’t available yet for the 5-inch Pixel although they are working on it.

Update: The decals are now available for the 5-inch Pixel.

In the package, you’ll get vinyl stickers properly spaced to fit your device. You’ll need to spend a few minutes applying them since they ship as individual pieces. Also keep in mind that these are handmade, so don’t expect to get them immediately, and don’t expect any kind of fancy money back guarantees or warranties for these simple stickers.

Bill and his daughter are creating these in their home and shipping them out, so be patient once you send in an order. To do so, head over to their website. Shipping is available both in the US and internationally. Here’s what they look like:
