Just a few weeks ahead of IFA in Berlin, an alleged image of Samsung’s virtually reality headset has been leaked. According to The Verge, Samsung is set to unveil this headset, alongside the Galaxy Note 4, at its Unpacked event in Berlin next month. The report claims that the headset, codenamed Project Moonlight, is similar to Google Cardboard in how it allows you to pair it with a smartphone display to transport you “into an immersive world” with its lenses.
The Samsung virtual reality headset has a detachable lid that holds the phone in place in front of your eyes, along with a focus dial on top. The Verge explains it below:
Besides the lenses, Project Moonlight appears to have a focus dial and may have a Micro USB connection to the phone. The headset is pictured here next to a Galaxy S5, but given the positioning alongside the Note 4 launch, it’s almost certain that the newest phone in Samsung’s smartphone stable will be compatible. A lid appears to be used to hold the phone in place once it’s connected.
Oculus, which uses a Note 3 display in some of its headsets, is rumored to be assisting Samsung on this project, as well, but this report does not corroborate that rumor. We should learn quite a bit more about Project Moonlight, and the Galaxy Note 4, at IFA next month.
