Chromecast officially launching in India, available tonight through SnapDeal for Rs 2,999

Google announced during its Great Online Shopping Festival 2014 tonight that it will officially launch the Chromecast streaming device in India. The HDMI dongle will be available through online retailer SnapDeal for Rs 2,999 later tonight—a bit higher than the $35 price in the States.

Google launched the Chromecast as a US-exclusive product in 2013, though it eventually rolled out in the UK, Canada, and other countries.

Earlier this year Google put its focus on India when it brought its Android One platform to the country in the form of three low-cost smartphones. Google also announced last month that it would be enabling free voice calls from India to the United States and Canada.

Google also announced that the Nexus 6 would be available tonight, though that’s hardly unexpected since the smartphone has been available for pre-order since last month. Many Indian users have reported that their orders shipped today.
